West Bromwich stings Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Last Saturday, Chelsea took on West Brom at home. What could have been an easy win for the home side turned into a bloodbath as West Brom put 5 past the Blues.

Chelsea took the lead in the 27th minute when the United States captain Christian Pulisic finished the ball off after Marcus Alonso’s freekick hit the post. Two minutes later, the match was completely turned upside down as Thiago Silva, the returning captain, picked up his second booking in the first 30 minutes and was sent off. The visitor took full advantage of 10 men Chelsea. Matheus Pereira’s exquisite lob in the 2nd minute of first-half stoppage time leveled the score for West Brom. Only two minutes after, the Brazilian produced a beautiful low finish to give the visitor the lead. Sam Allardyce's men were in dreamland after substitute Callum Robinson volleyed home the third of the afternoon for West Brom. But it did not stop there. Chelsea got embarrassed again in the 68th minute with Mbaye Diagne scored the fourth of the night. Chelsea’s young talent Mason Mount responded immediately after in the 71st minute. Stamford Bridge was silenced when Robinson added the icing on the cake in the 91st minute to complete the underdog victory.

After this game, Thomas Tuchel’s side stayed fourth in the Premier League table, despite the German losing his first game as Chelsea manager. Meanwhile, West Bromwich boosted their survival hope with this victory. They are still in 19th position but are only 2 points away from New Castle in the safety zone.
