On Wednesday, January 20, the Supercoppa Italiana final was played between Juventus and Napoli. Ronaldo scored in the 64th minute to help Juventus bring the Super Cup back to Turin. With this goal, Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed former Czechoslovakian legend Josef Bican for the most goals scored for club and country in the history of the game, with a total tally of 760 goals.
The Portugal native continues to defy his age since arriving from Real Madrid in 2018. He has already scored 15 goals in the current Serie A season. Among the 760 goals, Ronaldo scored 85 for his current club Juventus, a whopping 450 for Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, 5 for Sporting Lisbon, and 102 for Portugal.
Ronaldo still has 18 months left on his contract for Juventus, and he doesn’t believe that retirement is imminent. He said in an interview that he can still play for a long time to come and winning the 2022 World Cup with Portugal would be a dream for him. This means that he would most likely sign a new contract with Juventus, or, like many other analysts predicted, make his grand return to Old Trafford.
While Ronaldo has been capturing headlines, the Czech FA released a statement on Twitter and its website, stating that Josef Bican actually scored 821 goals, and Ronaldo is 62 goals short. At this time FIFA has yet to release a statement regarding this dispute.
