Max Verstappen Wins a Dramatic Imola Grand Prix with Rival Hamilton Placing Second

Race Sunday at Italy’s Emilia Romagna began with challenging weather conditions for the drivers. Dutchman Max Verstappen was able to capitalize on that as he passed Lewis Hamilton after starting from the third position on the grid. Hamilton was able to challenge Max’s lead during the pitstop phase, but he was too eager and sent himself off the circuit and dropped all the way to ninth on the grid. Meanwhile, Valterri Bottas in the other Mercedes was involved in a nasty crash with George Russell, which led to the red flag of the entire race. Hamilton recovered from P9 to P2 after the restart, overtaking Lando Norris who was in a lofty P2 with only three laps to go. Norris was able to hold on to his P3 and claim his second ever F1 podium.

The home favorite Ferrari finished P4 and 5 with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz respectively. Behind them, Estaban Ocon finished in the points with his Alpine car while his teammate Fernando Alonso has yet to pick up a top ten finish. Redbull’s Sergio Perez finished 12th after starting P2 from the grid.

F1 will travel to Portimão for the Portuguese Grand Prix at the end of April.
