The 71st Sanremo Music Festival, arguably one of the most famous music festivals in Europe, came to its final night this past Saturday. Italian rock band Maneskin came on top with their new song “ZITTI E BUONI” after four nights of fantastic performances at the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo. They become the first rock band to win the iconic competition in the 21st century. Alongside Maneskin on the podium were Francesca Michielin and Fedez with their collaboration on “Chiamami per nome”, and Ermal Meta with his new single “Un milione di cosa da dirti."
Maneskin finished 7th on the first night and did not sing on the second night. On the third night, adjudicated by the orchestra, Maneskin came in 6th place. Their performance on the fourth night was voted second by Major Italian Media. Their popularity gave them the edge in the final night’s telephone voting section and ultimately propelled them to the top of the final table. They will be representing Italy in the upcoming Eurovision contest in the Netherlands.
Contrary to what the media had predicted, the 2019 Italian talent show “Amici” winner Gaia only came in 19th place with “Cuore Amaro”. Another unexpected ranking was 5-time Sanremo contender Annalisa, who finished in only 7th place with her brilliant new single “Dieci.”
Other prizes at Sanremo include best lyrics, which went to La Madame with “Voce”, and best music composition, which went to Ermal Meta.
