Helen McCrory, Beloved Peaky Blinders Actress, Passes Away At 52

Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory, a legend of the British screen, passed away peacefully on April 16 at the age of 52 after a long, secret, and heroic battle with cancer. McCrory is well known for her performance in the Birmingham-based crime drama, where she played Elizabeth “Polly” Gray, aunt to the Shelby brothers and the treasurer for the criminal gang. She was also the famous Clair Dowar in 007 Skyfall and Narcissa Malfoy in Harry Potter.

Helen McCrory was made OBE by the Queen’s New Year’s list in 2017, and she was nominated for an Olivier Award for her role as Rosalind in As You Like It back in 2006.

Cillian Murphy, Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders and a longtime friend of McCory’s, expressed his condolences and said that “it was a privilege to have worked with this brilliant woman.”

Prior to her death, the Peaky Blinders crew had confirmed that McCrory would assume the role of Elizabeth Grey one last time in the final season. As of now, creator Steve Knight has yet to comment on this matter.
