Bentley Fall Athletics are finally back, some for the first time in almost two years! It is a great feeling to see the campus bustling with athletic events again.
Cross Country - Bentley has participated in two invitationals this month, representing 690 days since Bentley’s last cross-country competition on November 9, 2019! The Falcons have been propelled by freshmen Sam Capobianco on the men’s side and Caitlin Burmester and Lauren Joseph for the women. The men finished 6th of 10 and 7th of 7, whereas the women were able to grab 4th and 6th respectively. Look for the Falcons to soar towards a top finish at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA this Friday afternoon.
Field Hockey - In Bentley’s first month of field hockey action in over two years, the Falcons have jumped to a 4-1 start in conference play. Despite only starting one game so far, sophomore Katie Thies leads all Falcons in goals and points, closely tailed by upperclassmen Ava Bevilacqua and Christine Murray. Convincing wins over Mercy, Southern New Hampshire (SNHU), and St. Thomas Aquinas have helped Bentley put its rough early outings against non-conference foes behind them. The Falcons will be traveling to Saint Anselm this afternoon, and will next play on campus against Pace October 8.
Football - September 2021 has seen one of Bentley’s best starts in recent football memory, as the Falcons have won each of their first four matchups of the season. Cedie Dashiell II, Bentley’s senior captain, has been the stalwart of the defense, picking up back-to-back Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts. Junior tailback Nathaniel Larkins has already rushed for over 500 yards this year, good for 127.5 per game, evidence of an offense reliant on its punishing ground game. Bentley plays Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon and will next play at home the following weekend against Pace.
Golf - One of the rare sports that had the chance to play in 2020, golf has been successful so far for the Bentley squad, which has already picked up a top-three finish at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational along with a 5th place finish the following weekend at SNHU. Junior Jared Walter leads the team in average so far, shooting just over par at 72.5 but boasting a three-under 69 round this season. Look for Bentley to aim high as they compete in the Northeast-10 Championships next week in Concord, N.H. at Concord GC.
Soccer - A slow start for the men contradicted by a 3rd place standing for the women show a tale of two cities within Bentley soccer this season. Despite back-to-back losses on the men’s side, both came against tough conference teams and Bentley has the chance to gain some confidence with a big W against SNHU. Junior Patrick McMahon has been a somewhat surprising source of production for the Falcons considering his lack of starting experience, leading the team in goals with three. On the women’s side, a 3-1 conference record has leapfrogged Bentley to 3rd place in the Northeast-10. Following a road outing this afternoon at Assumption, the Bentley women will host Franklin Pierce (10/2) and Stonehill (10/5) for a chance to improve even further, giving a possible curtain call to a roster stacked with upperclassmen led by senior Dana Goulet and NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, senior Kat Hassapis.
