The second week of Dancing with the Stars aired on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 8:00 PM EST on ABC and Disney+. Dancing with the Stars is a TV show where a new episode airs each week. In each episode, pairs of celebrities and professionals perform a dance and are rated by three judges: Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli. They each rate the dance on a scale of 1-10 and add them up, which allows for a maximum possible score of 30/30. This week the remaining 13 pairs all performed a Latin-style dance (salsa, rumba, cha-cha, or tango). One of the top scorers of the night was American actress Xiochitl Gomez and dancer Val Chmerkovskiy. The duo who also tied for the highest score was singer Jason Mraz and his partner Daniella Karagach, who are fan favorites as he is entertaining to watch and has great musicality.
Additionally, Charity, best known for her appearance on TV as the Bachelorette, had to adjust quickly to a new partner for the week. The pro she is paired with, Artem Chigvintsev, tested positive for COVID-19 and was unable to perform. Despite the setback and having to learn a dance with a new partner, Ezra Sosa, for the week, the pair still scored in the top five.
Despite the many great dances from the episode, some were not so good. Unfortunately, Mauricio and Emma were one of them. Mauricio forgot a part of the dance and was unable to pick it back up for a few counts. This caused them to earn the lowest score of the night. Mauricio and Emma staved off elimination for at least another week thanks to strong support in the fan voting.
However, Jamie Lynn Spears and Alan Bersten were not as fortunate as they were the pair sent home this week. Judge Derek Hough said, “Jaime Lynn, you were fantastic. It's just, wow. It’s a shocker, honestly,” in response to the elimination. At the end of the episode, Spears states how grateful she is for this opportunity and expresses her gratitude to her partner, Alan.
