Bentley University will have an in-person Commencement after all. On May 1 at Fenway Park in Boston, the ceremony will occur with students and families in attendance, a welcome change after last year’s ceremony was held virtually due to the pandemic. The larger venue will allow for Commencement to be safely held in person and provides graduating students an opportunity to have two guests attend the ceremony.
The graduating class of 2021 and the class of 2020 will both have the opportunity to celebrate their respective graduations at Fenway. This will allow the class of 2020, which did not have the same opportunity this time last year, to enjoy the ceremony in its full form. They will have their own ceremony later on the same day, after the class of 2021.
The commencement also marks the return of former Bentley President Gloria Cordes Larson, who will deliver the Commencement address to the class of 2021, as well as a separate address in the second ceremony for the class of 2020. The former President served from 2007 to 2018, and was the president when both the classes of 2020 and 2021 began their careers at Bentley.
The announcement of an in-person Commencement ceremony is a welcome sight for the Bentley community, as it is one of the first signs of a return to pre-pandemic ways. The additional bonus of the ceremony taking place at Fenway Park is a well-earned reward for the classes of 2020 and 2021, who pushed through difficult times in their graduating years.
