Bentley Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Look to Start Off the 2021 Season Strong

The 2020 schedule was cut short for both the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The teams each played three games, with the men going 0-3 and the women going 2-1 in their respective shortened seasons. In each of their last full seasons, the men’s team went 9-5 and the women’s team went 11-6 in each of their respective seasons.

The men’s season starts on March 20 when the team takes on Adelphi at home. The team’s captains this season are Connor Bauhgan, Kris Campbell, and Nick Colstad. Baughan, a defensive midfielder, was named a second team Preseason All-American by the USILA on Thursday. Prior to the shortened 2020 season, Baughan was also named a Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse. He also was voted Third Team All-NE10 and First Team All-New England as a sophomore. Campbell, an attacker, had five points from the three game shortened season in 2020. As a sophomore in 2019, Campbell ranked third on the team with 28 points (17 goals and 11 assists). Colstad, a defender, started 13 games in 2019 and ranked second on the team that year in caused turnovers with 12. He also finished the shortened 2020 season ranked first on the team in caused turnovers.

As for the women’s lacrosse team, the team was voted to finish first in the NE-10 Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll. Four players were named captains this season: Eliza Bresler, Dana Lewandowski, Cara McCarthy, and Kate Schmal. Breseler, who is a goalie, decided to use her extra year of eligibility and was named the program’s first, first team All-America in 2019. This will be Bresler’s third year as captain. Lewandowki started all 16 games in 2019. Before the 2020 season got called off, she was off to a strong start with four caused turnovers in three games. McCarthy was voted third team All-Conference in 2019, and also scored 43 goals that year, the 12th most ever in a season in Bentley history. Schmal was also voted third team All-Conference in 2019. For the shortened 2020 season, she was recognized as a Maverik Women’s Division II Media All-American by Inside Lacrosse.

Both teams will have to lean on their captains to be successful this season. It is also fair to wonder if both teams may come out rusty to start the season because of not playing a full season in 2020.
