Bentley Hillel’s Welcome Back Ice-Cream Social

Wednesday, February 1st, Bentley Hillel hosted a welcome back event in Harry’s Pub. The goal of this event was to encourage more students to learn about the organization and increase turnout at future events. Bentley Hillel is “the catalyst for Jewish life, community and personal exploration.” This organization is led by Chaplain Rabbi Jeff Foust, Jewish Life Coordinator Julia Barron, and an e-board of nine student leaders.

Over the past year, Hillel has hosted weekly Shabbat dinners where all community members are welcome. These Shabbat dinners offer students time to relax, socialize with their peers, and enjoy a kosher meal together. For many students, this is one of the only times throughout the week when they can take a break from their busy day-to-day schedules.

The Welcome Back, Ice Cream Social, was a popular event with a turnout of over 80 people. As Hillel's Marketing Director, Bella Kramsky, says, “we had an amazing turnout; I am so happy with how it went.” The Ice Cream Social has been the most attended event this year. Hillel catered chocolate and vanilla ice cream from JP Licks with tons of toppings to choose from.

Events Coordinator Lauren Sloane states, "after coming back from studying abroad for a semester, it was so uplifting to see how many Bentley students participated during our ice cream event. I was also happy to see many of my friends come to the event!”

After Hillel members served attendees their ice cream, many stayed to talk in Harry’s. The atmosphere was great, with open spaces for people to sit and pop music playing in the background.

With such high attendance at the welcome back event, Hillel is hopeful for continued rates at future events such as Trivia Night, Greek Life Shabbat, and a Purim Party!
