On Saturday, September 9th Bentley CAB hosted their annual Back2Bentley concert. This concert is hosted during the first week of school as a welcome-back event. Past artists include KYLE, So Faygo, Young MA, Flo Milli, Quinn XCII, and Gunna.
Teasers about who the performers were going to be started on August 31st when @bentleycab posted images of grass, a wood floor, the moon, and more on Instagram. This post generated 211 likes with 4 comments. On September 3rd, it was announced that Surfaces was going to be the artist performing with DJ RM opening. This generated positive and negative reactions, with some people who loved their music and others who did not.
It was originally announced that the concert would take place on the Library Quad, however, due to inclement weather, it was moved to the Bentley Arena.
The day of the concert doors opened at 1:00 PM, and the concert started at 2:00 PM. DJ RM opened, and there were mixed opinions on his set. One Bentley student stated how they “didn’t think the DJ was that good because it had SoundCloud vibes, which is not my preference.” In contrast, another student said, “The DJ was fire.”
When Surfaces came out people seemed to be excited. As one attendee states, “The performers were niche, so while the crowd was smaller it was still fun because people knew their songs.” Why was the crowd smaller? One student who did not attend the concert stated that they “didn’t know the artist and didn’t want to walk down to the arena.”
Another attendee said “The B2B concert was alright. Surfaces did a good job of performing, but I believe no concert in the arena can be great. The vibes are always off. I still have high hopes for the Spring Day concert after Fivio decided not to show up last year.”
Although this concert generated mixed opinions, everyone is grateful that there are opportunities like this available as they help build a community and students still look forward to the Back2Bentley event each fall.
