Aston Villa 1 - Manchester Utd. 0, as Bruno Fernandes Misses Extra Time Penalty

After getting knocked out from the Carabao Cup, Manchester United was looking forward to bouncing back at home against Aston Villa. However, Aston Villa proved to be a stubborn opponent despite Manchester attacking with one of the most lethal trios in the Premier League with Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Mason Greenwood. In the first half, Manchester had plenty of chances in Villa’s 16-yard area, but they failed to convert efficiently. A draw during the first half gave the visitors a lot of confidence as Villa kept pressing United back. Adding to Manchester’s misery, captain Harry Maguire suffered a leg injury and was replaced by Lindelof in the 66th minute. In the last 10 minutes of the game, Solskjaer brought on Cavani in an attempt to change the momentum of the game. But before he could get involved at the attacking end, Villa’s Hause scored a brilliant header to take the lead in the 88th minute. Manchester could’ve rescued 1 point as they were awarded a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time, but Bruno Fernandes, normally the dead-eye penalty taker, sent the ball all the way into a stunned Stretford End.

This defeat is the Red’s first Premier League loss of the season. After this game, they are in fourth place in the table with six games played and thirteen points. Aston Villa, on the other hand, has 10 points after 6 games played, sitting in 8th position. Manchester United needs to keep their heads up to participate in another crucial game in the Champions League against Villarreal on Wednesday.
