AC Milan’s One Crucial Point for the Scudetto

Last Wednesday, AC Milan took on Udinese in the Italian Serie A. Milan’s Kessié scored a penalty in the 97th minutes, 7 minutes after regular time, to salvage 1 single point, which could be crucial in their fight for their first Scudetto since 2010-11.

AC Milan struggled to find the back of the net during the entire game as their top striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was out due to an injury. In the 68th minute, Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made a costly mistake as he watched Becão’s header hit the back of the net. In the 85th minute, an injury to the Udinese side left them with only 10 men and 5 added minutes at San Siro. The miracle happened for Milan in the 96th minute of the game, when Jens Stryger Larsen’s arm touched the ball in the penalty area, resulting in the referee awarding Milan a penalty. Franck Kessié converted from the spot to give Milan the equalizer in the 97th minute, with a point salvaged from the match.

It’s a costly draw for AC Milan at San Siro, as they are 3 points behind the league leaders, Inter Milan, with one more game played. The gap was extended to 6 points as Inter Milan won 2-1 against Parma this past Thursday. There are still plenty of games to go in Serie A this season and Inter’s remaining schedule looks relatively easy. In order to make up for the gap, AC Milan needs to hope that teams such as Roma, Napoli, and Juventus take points away from Inter in the rest of their games this season.
